  • Lord Macdonald KT KC of River Glaven

    A founder member of Matrix Chambers, Lord Macdonald Kt KC was appointed a Recorder of the Crown Court in 2001 and elected Chairman of the Criminal Bar Association in 2003. Later that year he became Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    As DPP, he established the Counter Terrorism Division, the Organised Crime Division, the Special Crime Division and the Fraud Prosecution Service. He played a major role across Whitehall in the development of criminal justice policy, especially in relation to international treaties and jurisdictional issues, mutual legal assistance, extradition, terrorism and grave cross-border crime.

    Completing his term as DPP in 2008, he became a trustee of Index on Censorship, the leading free expression advocacy group, and was appointed Chair of Reprieve, the anti-death penalty organisation, in succession to Lord Bingham of Cornhill. He was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2010, and became a member of the House of Lords in the same year.

    He was a Visiting Professor of Law at the London School of Economics 2009-12.

    In 2012 he became Warden of Wadham College, Oxford.

  • The Rt Hon Sir Robert Buckland KC MP

    The Rt Hon Robert Buckland KC is a Conservative member of Parliament .

    He was Secretary of State for Wales from 7 July 2022 to 25 October 2022.

    He was previously Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice from July 2019 to September 2021, Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice from May 2019 to July 2019 and Solicitor General.

  • Rushanara Ali MP

    Rushanara Ali is the Labour member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow. She was first elected in May 2010.

    Rushanara served as Shadow Minister for Education and Young People, and between October 2010 and October 2013, as Shadow Minister for International Development. Rushanara has previously served as a member of the Treasury Select Committee, the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee and the Communities and Local Government Select Committee.

    In April 2016 Rushanara was appointed as the Prime Minster's Trade Envoy to Bangladesh.

    In October 2017 she rejoined the Treasury Select Committee.

    Rushanara studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University.

    Tim James-Matthews is a barrister at leading chambers Matrix Chambers.

    Tim has experience in a range of criminal law, public law, human rights matters and international law matters.

    He has an extensive practice in judicial review proceedings, from advising clients at the pre-action stage, to assisting in preparation for an appeal.

    Tim has a particular interest in public law cases which involve a significant criminal justice focus, including actions against the State or police.
